WORKSHOP: "The Deconstructed Still Life"
In this 3 1/2-day workshop, participants will have the opportunity to paint three different paintings over the course of 24 hours. Participants will setup a composition containing 3 objects; then we will start deconstructing, studying each object individually, then create a final painting containing all the objects in the composition.
The first day of painting will focus on a simple setup (one object) painted directly and finished in one six-hour sitting. The second day, we will add an additional object, make a new painting (painted directly), that can still be finished in one day. The final two days will focus on the more complicated setup of three objects. With the longer amount of time, participants will be guided to study the setup, prepare the composition, create a poster study, develop an underpainting, and push the finish further than the previous two paintings.
This is a progressive workshop, that will build on itself. Participants will use the tools learned in the previous day’s work towards developing their practice to creating a fully realized painting in the final two days.
Demonstrations and individual critiques will be given daily.
